Propping up end of KLR to oil chain or change a tire.

While some use a simple board, or say they can find a stick anywhere, and at times I have asked someone near by to spray the chain while I hold the KLR tilted. (Most would rather spray, then take a chance of tipping it over. lol)

I have carried the adjustable end  of an Aluminum crutch. Very light

(2 pieces +rubber tip)

 

But while at Sears in the tool dept. I seen an old tool that looks great, Butt, weights 2.25lbs.  (HOOD PROP, 18.5 - 46.5+ inchs. of STEEL  $25-$35)  

Ya could always use it as an Emergency walking "cane". 

I plan on calling to find out the weight limit, but I do know older cars hoods were/are heavy, and they would want SAFTY being over your head.

I use a section of grey plastic water pipe I found on the side of the road as a prop. It's light, sturdy and was free. =) Until I got a pit stand for my sport bike, I even used it to lube it's chain, too. Placed carefully, I can even prop up the front end for wheel cleaning duties! eddie

How can I possibly touch up paint chips on that sort of prop while in the back country?  Are you advocating one should ride with an aesthetically flawed prop? So, my cousin from Lithuania wanted to ride Alaska...only I live in Michigan. So, I bought a pretty shitty '88 KLR with an allegedly rebuilt '04 motor and spent about a month wrestling with it, making copious use of JBWeld and hillbilly ingenuity. Long story a bit shorter...said KLRat bike and my trusty '98 KLR, along with mentioned cousin, Remi...who speaks NO ENGLISH! are in Teslin Lake, Yukon right now...and both bikes are still running. We have little idea where we are going other than I want to ride the Denali Highway from Paxson and he wants to do the Haul Road to Deadhorse. Right now, we are looking for leads on where to stay around Fairbanks. Checked out the tent space forum and have heard of a place called Billy's and the dorms at the university. Been camping so far...and occasionally very wet. Suggestions, ideas, offers? JohnD
