John, I asked a Kawasaki rep about '08 changes, he told me dohicky design change, I did not ask. There was a small brochure (I try to scan it and post it tonight) but nothing about a dohicky change. I can't confirm this but the '08 seems to have a lower seat height (I'd guess about an inch). Thanks Gary

Who really cares if they addressed the "Doohickey", for the cost involved in upgrading yourself would rather not have KHI create another problem with something that was so easy to replace oneself. My Opinion Dooden A15 Green Ape

I spoke to a KMC, USA representative @ their Customer Services telephone number, 949-460-5688, last week who said there are no changes to the balancer chain tension adjustment mechanism for the 2008 KLR650. He seemed to know about the issue and said there was an aftermarket part available, although he wasn't talkative. What do I think? I don't think KMC, USA will say anything different than what is in a press release. I'm hoping it ain't so and they're just keeping quiet. Fred

Thanks for posting the pictures, I had always wondered what the new instrument panel looked like! Anyone know which bike it is off of? Maybe the speedos won't be off 8% anymore, like every other Honda I've owned that is almost dead-on. There I go again, dreaming... dohicky Forgive my skepticism, but Kawasaki reps and dealers have been puffing about "this year's redesigned doohickey" for about four years now. haven't seen it yet; it says here we won't see it this year either.

You have to wonder why they chose the balancer system they did for the KLR. Why wouldn't they have used the system used on the KLX650? I'm not that familiar with the KLX nor it's engine. Would the KLX engine have been a good alternative to the KLR? What would the main differences have been? kestrelfal wrote:

Bitch, bitch, bitch. All we do is bitch about our KLR's little problems. Personally I prefer to consider them "personality". If everything was perfect everybody would have one, and that wouldn't be any fun.

Ya know, I took my 93 KLR off roading for the first time ever, for both me and the bike. I followed two friends that had 250 cc four wheelers through brush, mud, hills and other fun obstacles. Not only did I not wreck, I had a blast. I kept up with them through everything but the mud...that's when I found that a 650 will sink in about 2 seconds. It took a while to get it out, but it was still fun. And I'm only using Avon Distanza street tires. Had I been using gripsters or some other knobby tire, I could have kept up with them easily. I think my bike will out perform me on all types of terrain, so I guess I'll just have to try and see!! Moose Mike Peplinski wrote: Bitch, bitch, bitch.
