a unique solution to wind buffeting?

Post by nakedwaterskier » Thu Jan 29, 2009 6:17 pm

I tried a big aftermarket windshield when I only had an MX helmet. It helped some but I got rid of it and went back to my stock windshield when I got a Shoei full face street helmet. Now I am going to take off the stock one because it shoots the air right into my helmet shield. I rode a friends Ninja last weekend on one of those cold sunny SoCal winter days. The Ninja windshield blasted turbulent cold air right at my neck which was even worse. Tall windshields also get coated with dirt/dust promptly and make it hard to see offroad. So, the best solution is to get a new Mercedes or Porsche convertible. Jeffrey

a unique solution to wind buffeting?

Haven't tried them myself but the guy who makes them is a member of the Yahoo Dyna (as in Harley) group, which I read often (except when it gets into endless discussions about seats, washing, and pipes, the Harley equivalent of chain lube, tires, and oil threads). He occasionally gives away one or two in a raffle type drawing and then the winners get to review them. Many people have also purchased them and so far everyone has pretty much raved about how well they work. You could just get a big one and wear it outside the jacket. I'm sure they come in big sizes, considering the size of some of the Harley riders. The principle is that the buffeting from a Dyna comes up UNDER the windshield because the location of the windshield is somewhat forward of the rider, (it seems to be the case on mine); the flaps prevent it from blowing up and around the body and face. For a KLR I don't think the same is necessarily true (though I could be wrong). It seems to me the buffeting is more in front and higher, so I don't think they would work as well there. Besides, there is always the geekiness factor. I just run my Dyna without a shield unless I'm on a long trip. I can't see how the flaps would help with the noise at all; earplugs are the only proven answer for that. The owner is really a nice guy and seems willing to answer any questions, send him an email. Disclaimer: don't know the owner personally or ever tried a vest, just passing on an observation. Wear earplugs but IMO they're a pain in the posterior and I get sick of fooling with them. I recently ran across this and thought I'd see if anyone has any experience with it. Anyone tried one of these or have any observations or ideas? $bob$
