stupid rear shock adjustment question

Greetings, fellow KLRistas! Since the weather was so nice this year, I decided to ride my KLR to visit my parents for Thanksgiving! There isn't anything special to report about this ride, except that it is officially the longest trip I've taken on two wheels...so far! I live in Southeast Nebraska, and my parents live in Southeast South Dakota. I left on Wednesday about 11:45am, headed north. The temperature was around 55 degrees or so, so not too bad. By the time I made it to Norfolk, it was almost 70! So my next stop I opened up all my jacket's front vents. I didn't really think it was too uncomfortable before, but with the vents open was MUCH better! The temps stayed pretty good all the way to my parents' house, where is was just under 60 when I arrived at 4:00pm or so. The ride back on Saturday was a bit cooler; about 45 degrees when I left, and no more than 54 degrees anywhere I could see along the way. It was about 43 degrees back at home when I pulled in at 4:00pm. All in all, not too bad...and this without any electric gear! It worked really well as an extra trunk! I am definitely considering a set of tank panniers for future excursions, and I most definitely want a set of heated grips! What kind of racks did you buy for the pelican cases? Would you give us details on the install? I really like the looks of them on the bike and know from experience that pelican cases are tough and dependable. Greg; Willard, MO; Aztec Red '07 P.S. Congrats on your warm weather blessings. This summer I picked up a new 2006 KLR as my first bike. I've put 2K miles on it and I've really enjoyed learning to ride. Today I decided to play with adjusting the rear shock. I got out my clymer manual and found the spring preload adjustment hex head. Before adjusting it I see the number 1. I turned the hex head expecting that the next number I will see is a 2, but its not. The next number is a 5. From reading online and in the manual I was under the impression that the adjustments range from 1 to 5, so what is the deal? It didn't seem like there was any settings between the 1 and the 5 and It did look like there were more lines below the the line next to the 5. Do you just count the lines and ignore the number? Am I missing something really obvious? I looked in the FAQ and searched a little on this forum, but couldn't find anything that cleared it up for me. Dylan
