extended warranty

Post by Walter Mitty » Sun Apr 03, 2005 8:22 pm

Extended warranties are generally (not just for KLR650s) a good deal for the merchant and a bad deal for the consumer. This is why they are marketed so agressively. You are surely not alone in purchasing an extended warranty, there are lots of gullable folks out there. klr250not wrote: You speak for most of us do you? extended warranty

Robert, Change it to a different dealer than all of those I have had dealings with, OK? :-) How many times have I heard from others here, "my mechanic said"the valves don't need adjusting until at least 10K", "don't need adjusting at first service", etc. Oh, that's right, they KNOW better than I do. (in spite of the fact that ALL the times I've helped do valve adjustments after the owner was told that, and the valves NEEDED adjustment). The swingarm and linkage bearings and shafts are always properly lubed, too (see Paul Streeter's post). The balancer system never has a problem. The safety switches on the clutch and kickstand never cause a problem either, do they. :-) As I said before, good luck! (sincerely) All the best, Mike "klr250not" wrote:

extended warranty

PO bought the warranty on my A17. The rear shock blew out on me at 4000 miles and they replaced it for me at no cost. My biggest complaint was waiting over a week to get my bike back.. John Biccum wrote: I agree with the others that suggest that extended warrantees are a rather bad investment. I think of the warrantee as the manufacturer betting the bike will be relatively reliable and the buyer betting that they know more about the reliability than the manufacturer :-) But the A16 that I bought used came with a 7 year unlimited mileage Kawasaki Gold Card warrantee, compliments of the DPO. I do my own work but had the fork seals replaced under warrantee. The dealer has to call Kawasaki to get them to accept the charge but they did accept the change without hassle. I don't know how much the DPO paid for the warrantee but it saved me less than $100 for the replacement forks seals and labor. If I had no warrantee I would have just purchased the seals ( ----- Original Message ----- From: "Randy Shultz" To: Sent: Saturday, April 02, 2005 22:41 Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Extended warranty > > > Any thoughts on the 2-4 year extended warranty offered by Kawasaki? > Anyone think it's a good deal?
