Hi All,
Still wet and windy in North Yorkshire! if anyones interested,
must say I,ve got to agree with Chip regarding when is a T-Type not a
T-Type. In all fairness though I think you have to include racers as they
all started out as T-Types and Specials as they use a lot of T-Type
compononts. As for the rest of us using road going T-Types those mods. we
use are mostly reversable i.e.can be changed back to original. Purists might
like to look away now, There is now a conversion available to fit a 5 speed
gearbox into the TB/C as there was for the MGA/TD/TF anybody going to own
up! sounds like a good idea to me, be able to get down the "Great North
Road" a bit more often.
Regards,

Oh boy, I see another "when does a T-Type stop being a T-Type" thread
about to start. You'll never get any two owners to agree on what amount
of deviation from factory originality is acceptable. Never!
If I were you I'd think very carefully about what the purpose of your
register is to be. If it were up to me I'd make it as inclusive as
possible. Take a relaxed approach, enjoy the cars. Record modifications
in your Register if you want to, but don't exclude a car because it
has been modified. And don't exclude specials based on T-Type componants.
They are an important part of T-Type history.
Others here will tell you to be fairly exclusive (to exclude TCs with
Datsun steering boxes and the like). The big problem with that approach
is that someone has to decide what modifications are allowed and what
modifications are not. Experience right here in the MG-TABC mailing list
shows that it's impossible to reach concensus on that subject.
Some will even tell you to allow only absolutely original cars, but that
policy will exclude virtually every T-Type still in existance. A register
with a membership of zero isn't much use to anyone.
Good luck, Joe. You'll need it!

Re: Digest Number 715
On originality:
We had this problem when I was president of Dixie Region of AACA (Antique
Car Club of America). We had purists, who wanted perfectly original cars, as
they left the factory. Big points off for non original modifications at a
meet. In many cases there is argument about how they left the factory.
During production runs old stock was found in the warehouse and used up,
then a return to a later replacement part caused interruptions in the stream
of parts such that aberrations did occur. Then, we had the out and out hot
rodders, with a 32 Ford frame, channeled and chopped, with a blown Chevy
engine, LaSalle transmission, Jaguar rear end, fiberglass body, flame paint,
chrome suspension etc. These two extremes are obvious. Somewhere in between
the car is no longer 'original. I have several minor modifications to mine
too. I just enjoy driving it.
