air/fuel mixture screw adjustment / seafoam believer!
Just removed the plug covering this adj.screw. Cant recall how many turns to back it out after seating it. HELP! Oh yeah,I am now a firm believer in the gas additive Seafoam! I got into a Demolition Derby contest with a shopping basket in Aug. of 2010. The bike wasnt ridden or started until Feb. 2011. No symptoms of varnishing what-so-ever! However...sticker expired Apr.2011. My 2007 was put on hiatus until 4 days ago. The only precaution I took while it sat was to add Seafoam. thats it! But,from Apr. 2011-Oct. 2012? Thats a yr. and a half! And it still fired right up afte charging the battery...but it does pop frequently upon compression deceleration. I would not recommend letting your fuel go that long without attention, but its nice to know I have a friend in Seafoam!

The screw from the factory is set a bit lean and reported as anywhere from
3/4 to 1 3/4 turns out.
The KLR will run best if set between 2 and 2 1/2 turns out.

I agree with Seafoam.
But seem to have mine more like 1 3/4 ~ 2 turns maybe, otherwise all stock.

Just do it right and get the adjustable one from Fred. Plus, when going to high elevations, you can lean it a bit to help out the bike.
