Yes, I can see how you use the information to adjust accordingly, but
I will not let mine get down to even half the window. That's alot of
oil IMHO.
But even what you are doing is a heck of alot better than what some
new KLR owners, or new riders will do. The manuel tells them to keep
the oil level "in between the lines". You know what that means
right? They will never put in more than the top line, which is
already low by many ounces, then they will wait till it's at the
bottom line, which is REALLY low. Some still, will think that as the
book says "in between the lines" is OK, and will not think twice
about waiting a while longer to add oil, even though it's already at
the bottom line. NOT GOOD IMHO.

Yea, I am hearing more and more of that. So far, I haven't found
anything that he has to say wrong, it's just that it is so far into
what I call "the perfectionist world", that most are not going to do
it because of time, money, tools, place, or they just don't care to
worry about the things that he does. But I too like to hear what he
has to say.
