carb icing?

That's really interesting to know, Mark. In my past (and sometimes daydream) life, I was really into old VWs, which also have horrible icing problems. The venturi effect and the single carb far from the cylinder heat would form a literal crust of ice on the carb body. I spent a few hours with hot tea bags trying to warm it enough to get home and then plumbed a heater duct from right above the muffler to the carb, which solved it nicely. I didn't think the KLR was susceptible to those quirks, I guess since the carb is right behind the engine and so near the header. If they're making (or were, anyway) a mod to solve it it must be an issue. I guess one more thing to watch for... I try not to ride in rain below the low 40s, but Mr Murhpy seems to have it in for me. Thanks. -Luke --- Tengai Mark Van Horn wrote:

carb icing?

OK , I didn't read it. John Sent by: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com 10/16/06 07:42 PM To DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com cc Subject [DSN_KLR650] Re: Carb Icing? Had exactly same thing happen to me yesterday. Riding on freeway in very heavy rain and spray. Gassed up, went about 10 miles and it started spluttering, like it was running out of gas. Hammered the throttle and after a about 5 miles it seemed back to normal. My thoughts were; bad gas, a few drops of water in when I was gassing up in the heavy rain, maybe the tank sucked in a lot of very damp air when I opened the gas cap to fill? Really no idea, its perfect today-as perfect as KLR ever gets. So, this whole reply to your question is a waste of your time-shouldn't even read it if I were you!
