Abingdon Spares. Part from each. Having done a TC before I expected to have
to hand fit the wood to the metal. The wood for the last TC I did came from
Canada through Abingdon Spares. It was all oversize. This was many years
ago and I do not know where their wood comes from now. I think most wood is
made that way because the cars were hand assembled and varied in size
requirements. So far I am in the wood frame buildup stage and have not tried
to fit any of the sheet metal to it. I did have to replace the tub angle
iron rails and purchased them from AS. The backboard and diff board from
Moss had pre-drilled holes and none of them matched holes in the new rails.
(This kind of thing is what made me vow never to do another TC again after
the first one.) Must have had a "senior moment" when I bought another one
to do. Like the last of the kittens, I just couldn't see it wasting away in
someone else's garage. The other source for wood that I have heard has nice
stuff is the Whitworth Shop, Craig Seabrook, in Novelty, Ohio. Some years
back Craig did some instrument and center dash panel work for me and it was
excellent. I have not seen his wood but heard (after I had bought all mine)
that his is a very good fit. Maybe someone else on the forum can give you

Where did you/ will you buy your wood? TC 3452 is presently stripped
to the chasis and going back together (very slowly!). Am looking to gather
wood pieces for the body this summer if I get the chance. Tried some of the
Abingdon Spares pieces. Went up to visit them year before last when I was
in the area on business, knowing that I would eventually need wood. Gerry
took me through the building and I did a general comparison on a few pieces
I thought I would need. All cut over-size, of course, requiring to be
trimmed to fit each car. Body sheet metal on 3452 in very good shape, but
now looks like I will be replacing almost entire wood). The few wood pieces
I tried from A.S., however, needed alot of sanding in order for the original
sheet metal to fit. In addition, front wood pillars I bought from A.S.were
too small (but largest they had on hand).
Have contacted the Classic Wood folks in N.C. as they advertise cut wood
body pieces for our TCs (and other models) in Hemmings Motor News. They may
be able to help, but won't know until I drive up there this summer with
original pieces. Any experience with these folks?
