Well, guys & gals, since no one came forward to look into fuel cells as a
solution to the leaking, crudded-up tanks so many of us seem to be posessed
by, I made a start myself! Here's the results:
1.) I quickly found one manufacturer of fuel cells for race cars who said
that they could build a bladder to fit within the TC tank with no difficulty.
Their products are supposed to be immune to all types of fuel, and carry a
5-year warranty. Price estimate for a single bladder---approx $525 US. More
than one would bring the price down, but I did not explore that aspect as
yet. ANYONE INTERESTED??? IF YOU ARE, DROP ME AN E-MAIL
2.) I asked a local welding shop if they could/would make up a stainless
steel tank to fit within the TC tank after it had been suitably gutted. They
said: "Sure, but don't tell us that it's to be used to hold gasoline
(petrol); our insurance won't let us build such things because of the
liability risk!"
Their price would be about $100 US for materials, plus about $200 US for
labor. It would link up with the existing filler neck, etc., and be
invisible when installed. Price could probably come down with additional
orders, as per #1 above, but I didn't go into that. (Seems to me that ANY
good welding shop could do the job, and I'm not particularly interested in
getting into volume production and shipping anyway, so don't feel obligated
to respond to this as if it were an offer to procure these things.
All I'm trying to do is help ALL of us find alternatives to leaky, garped
up tanks.
There's my tuppence worth for the day!
Regards to all,
Carl Fritz

Fuel tanks
Speaking of fuel tanks, I finally got the sender unit to stop leaking and as I was sanding the wrinkled paint off, noticed that it was leaking lower right probably under the locating bracket. I undertand that this bracket is spot welded to the tank and needs to be removed to fix the leak caused by the thing flexing. Has anyone removed the bracket? are the spot welds easy to see? I intend to make a solder repair and not replace the tank.
