My TC was inherited by my mother who took it over when my father passed
away in 1990. My father purchased the vehical in South Africa in 1973 and
towed it home with bits in two oil drums. My father then completely stripped
down the TC to the chassis and rebuilt it in Johannesburg. The TC was
imported back to the UK in 1975. The TC was my mother and father's daily car when
they first bought it back from South Africa in 1975 until I came along in
1979 and they had to purchase a four seater car which was a VW Beetle. And
so the TC was only used on high days and spent most of the time in the
garage. Between 1975 to 1990 engine was rebuilt and general repairs & services
carried out. 1990 to present day the TC has been looked after by our local
classic car garage. My partner and I have taken it to many MG events and
our most memorable event was the MG Windsor Festival in 2009. The atmosphere
was fantastic and my mother saw me drive the MG through Windsor Castle and
then parked up in the static display. This event meant a lot to my mother as
her own father was born in Windsor and grow up in Windsor Great Park, so
taking part in this event was more than just the car but also the family
history we have there. I actually took over the ownership of the TC in 2010
when my mother sadly passed away at the age of 64. Now that I have been very
fortunate to inherit the MGTC I always have a large smile on my face and a
sense of pride of ownership when I drive it out for shows, rallies and
events.

I have a fair amount of slop in my steering linkage. The steering box
(something obscure none of my few TC acquaintances has seen before) seems
to
be tight. I've tightened the drag link and tie balls as much as possible,
but
it hasn't helped much.

So I was wondering, should I change the length of either the drag link or
the
tie rod by screwing in or out the drag link or tie rod assemblies? That
seems
to be the only option. If this is what I need to do, should I make
both/either
one longer or shorter?

Any other suggestions would be most helpful.

For what it's worth, I have 15-inch Borrini (I think) rims with new bias
ply
tires. (My dad bought this TC from a guy who raced it in the late '40s or
'50s.) The rims are true. The steering held up well, although the slop
increased a bit, when I drove the car from Casper to Reno and back for
Reno
confab.
