been driving it to work. This will be a driving restoration because I want
to enjoy the car. The car was originally red, and has been painted only one
time to Black. It is a true "California" car!!! THIS CAR HAS NO RUST

Welcome to our 498th member:

Call, John----------jaycall@attbi.com-----------Burbank, CA, USA
1948 TC 5481 XPAG 5659

who wrote:

When I got my first car (a VW) at age 15 (that was back in 1961), what I
really wanted was an MG-TC. I saw one advertised in Road & Track and sent
the advertiser $3.00 for a set of photos of the car. Of course, I couldn't
afford the price he was asking for it--it was beautifully restored--which was
(as I recall) the then astronomical sum of
$4,200.00 (one could buy a brand-new Porsche for that, then). But I dreamed,
and kept a photo of that car taped to the dashboard of my VW all thru
high-school. After that, reality intervened (along with Viet-Nam and a
twenty-four year career as a U.S. Army political-military officer, spent all
over the world). As time went by, I acquired lots of fun cars: Alfa Romeos
(a particular favorite), Citroens (my first was a '52 L-ll Traction Avant), a
couple of Alpines (not Sunbeams or Renaults, but REAL Alpines -- faster than
a Porsche 911), a cranky Morgan 4/4, and sundry others, most mercifully
forgotten. But I never had an MG, and more particularly, I still wanted a TC.

Now, I've retired (early) from my last career, as a lawyer. You know, when
you get older, there's a lot you can't have anymore (some of it, just as
well). But you can still have sailboats and cars. Not content with spending
money on a sailboat, I thought I would at last indulge my dream of owning a
TC. And so, unless something should go terribly awry, I shall. Frankly, I
look forward to fussing with it as much as driving it.

Hope it turns out well.

Again, thanks for the welcome. I sure hope I'll be able to turn to others in
the community of owners for advice from time-to-time, 'cause I'm sure
I'mgoing to need it.

yet decided but probably BRG. Upholstery presently Tan but may be changed.
The car is basically standard. It has a cast aluminium rocker box with
octagonal shaped quick fill oil filler. I splurged and bought a white
Blumels Steering wheel, Very rare but were quite common in the UK during the
'30's, I unfortunately am old enough to remember them. Always looked a
million dollars.

Best regards, I am enjoying exploring your excellent website.

PS Due to a very understanding wife TC is in the dining room sharing space
with an MGA MK II in the foyer.
