No car - (he wrote that he had a '49 TC but) "This car met its demise in
1951 (alas). I had owned it for two years. Actually, it was the Thanksgiving
weekend of 1952.
I bought the MG at York Motors in Pittsburgh, Pa, in the spring of 1951.
It was used -- the previous owner had actually used it in a robbery
attempt! I think I paid $1325 for it -- about every penny I had.
Fellow students at Carnegie Tech generally scoffed at it -- but I loved
it. Would you believe it was turned down by a parade committee as a
"coed-display" car in a fall, 1951 parade? Too funny looking.
I did a complete engine overhall in the summer of 1952 -- kept me out of
truble.
On the way home to Youngstown for Thanksgiving, a salesman in a Chevy
business coupe ran a red light -- I hit him amidships and flipped him
over. No injuries -- but both cars were totalled.
I had that MG for three semesters out of eight -- my grades were at "C"
level during those semesters and at A- level in the other five. I told my
dad there was no causality. He did not buy it.

foreign car garage on Telegraph Ave. in Berkeley. He also owned a beautiful
Cord sedan. I drove the car for several years and belonged to the Square
Wheel Touring Society of Marin County. Along the way another TC owner and I
overhauled our engines together in San Anselmo, California. After that, the
car became reliable! But in my unknowing youthful ways, I sought money for a
trip to Europe in 1953 and sold it back to CJ for $1500. (One of the biggest
mistakes of my life, so far). In retrospect, I should have gotten a bank
loan with the car as collateral. After returning home in 1956 I learned that
CJ had sold the car to a student at UC Davis and that he had raced it and
broken a half shaft. After learning that I lost interest in the car, but now
I would like to track it down and find out where it is, if it still exists,
possibly restore it.
