TC Battery holddown

Post by John Pavone » Thu Sep 22, 2005 9:29 am

I noticed that my battery is only kept (somewhat) located by it's
positive and negative cables. What type of holddown device was used to
keep it from shifting around? I can't seem to find any pictures of one
and don't see anything listed in the parts catalogs.

Thanks.

Hello John,

The original battery had two moulded "ears" through which passed two
long bolts. If you go to page 80 of the TC Instruction Manual (the
'Brown Book') you will see from illustration 44 that the battery has
"ears" and you will also note the hole in the "ear" for the fixing bolt.
Page K5 of the Service Parts List (AKD 856) calls up 2 bolts, Part
number 27H 5151 for the STXW9A battery.

All this is described in an article on page 22 of the January '05 Issue
of "Totally T-Type" the bi-monthly magazine of the T Register of the MG
Car Club here in the UK. If you go to www.tregister.org you can download
copies free of charge. Alternatively, you can opt to receive 'hard'
copies for an annual subscription. Full details are given in the
"Totally T-Type" section of the website.

Whilst you are about it, do have a look at our Regalia section where we
list the TC Instruction Manual at a price which is the least expensive
in the UK. We also do a high quality reproduction of the May 1946 TC
Sales Brochure for 3.50 plus postage. An original Sales Brochure would
cost around 100 - our reproduction copy is virtually indistinguishable
from the original. I've so far sent out over 100 copies worldwide.

Kind Regards,

JOHN JAMES (TC0750)
Editor "Totally T-Type" and Regalia Secretary MG Car Club T Register.

John if you want the batteries with the ears I believe Interstate still makes
them here in the USA, as Austin Healey and XK 120 Jag used that type also
