Graham,

You may have to fabricate a new drag link and tie rod to fit the available rod ends. These guys can make them up at a very reasonable price:

Now, you have me thinking of doing this mod too! ;-)

When I had the ball joints fitted, I sourced high pressure, seamless
hydraulic tubing of the appropriate diameter and wall thickness to
accommodate the thread size of the jonts that my friendly machinist tapped
and threaded. See too this link for some interesting comment on the

G'day Graham,

A word of warning re 'Rose Joints'
The type suitable for automotive applications differs substantially from
the more common industrial spherical bearings. Not only in cost but in
load and shock load capacity.
I'd check with a reputable speed shop or engineer before making a move.
Hate to see your steering fall to bits at speed!

Graham,

Now that we have been all through heim/rose joints and everything, I
would suggest that unless you have a compelling reason not to, stick
with the orginal TC steering setup. I admit that its not the best
design ever, but its serviceable and has held up for 50+ years.
Heim/rose joints will work but you will need a new tie rod and drag link
for them. Also you will need very good bolts and nuts to connect
everything. They are also labor intensive. You need to keep them lubed
as they have no covers. In their normal use on race cars it not a
problem as if the car last a whole season, its usually completely
rebuilt for the next season and any suspect part is replaced.
Conventional steering ball joints are another option but they have a
tapered shaft. All the joints on a TC /except/ the drop arm are
straight bored. Your steering arms would have to be machined for the
correct taper along with buying all the links and joints. Whatever you
do, be very careful. People have died from driving TCs with poorly
engineered steering modifications.

Hope I don't depress you too much.
