TD/TF cluster gear update

Group- I stopped by this past thursday to visit with our gear maker, all is moving along well. The matr'l used as the blank is 8620 'normalized' ( whatever that means ) 1 1/2 times better than the blank steel used in the original gears from the factory. When heat treated, will take the hardness better ( how it was explained to me ). All parts have been 'roughted in' and they are waiting for a special gear cutter due to the closeness of two gears on the cluster gear. I am still waiting to get the NOS TC cluster gear from Ross Taylor in OZ so we can get the TB/TC cluster gear quoted. If anyone knows of such an animal ( first gear NOS would be nice to have as well ) that could be bought or loaned out, please let me know. mick

Happy new year group, I hope ! I just got a call from the gear maker, the special hobbing cutter came in from the UK this morning. 90% of the gears are finished with the hobbing operation and two other machinging operations afetr that. They will then be inspected and sent to the heat treater and then final inspection. He expects them to be available about the 15 th of this month based on finish work from heat treating. I have only lost (1) order for the gears so there is another one available. I am almost half affraid to go forward with the TC cluster gear project as I can not find a NOS anywhere in the world. Any suggestions or comments ? mick
