BC steering box rubber anti-rattle ring

Post by John Pavone » Tue Aug 16, 2005 5:57 am

Moss lists a rubber anti-rattle ring (part #262-320), which according to their illustration, goes around the inner steering column shaft. What's the purpose of this part and is it really needed? Since my BC box has been rebuilt and is ready to go back in the car, I'd really hate to have to disassemble it again, to install this ring. Thanks. JP TC2797

It prevents the relatively limber inner column from vibrating against the inside of the outer column. Omitting it doesn't effect how the steering gear works, it just stops it from rattling. Unless you drive a lot on rough roads, yours may never rattle. -- Chip Old 1948 M.G. TC Cub Hill, Maryland, US TC6710 XPAG7430 fold@bcpl.net NEMGTR #2271

The roads around here are pretty decent, so I'll leave it out. Thanks! JP TC2797

Not sure if it is the same, however, the TD has a felt bushing at the top and bottom of the steering shaft... one of mine is loose and the rattle of the inner and outer shaft drives me crazy... Doesn't rattle when driving straight but on turns it is annoying. If you end up with the rattle, you will strip it all down again. At 4:43 AM +0000 8/17/05, mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com wrote:
