New member David Miller and his TC

I was fascinated Jim by your note about our new member David Miller and his 1848 TC. You will appreciate that this was the very first TC ever built, some 97 years earlier than first thought. Unfortunately you got the chassis slightly wrong it was actually TC -7787! It was actually built by the forerunner of MG, namely MS (probably from Morris Stables) a privately owned company belonging to that great lover of horseflesh, Sir Bill Morris of Morris Hacks fame. For connoisseurs he was the great great grandfather of our Bill. David doesn't seem to realise it but it had the very first XNAG engine too. This developed an astounding (for its time) 54 bcp (baked carrot power). Morris seems to have given his manager (an ex-hobby horse salesman called Kettle Kimber) a free hand not even asking how he had obtained and output of 54 bcp or even how he got the horse under the bonnet, except that it had to come from Bill's own stable. Over time as the production increased and the chassis' began to approach zero the company seemed to just fade away, leaving the legacy we now know. Its even forgotten today that the pavlovas made at Abingdon, before Bill, were believed second to none but their production and secret recipe disappeared, to reappear in NZ more recently.
