TA tool box catches

Gentlemen: I am currently completing a total restoration on an MG TA and I require the two catches which hold the tool box's wooden lid down tightly. The ones I wish to acquire are of the type illustrated in the book "Original MG T-Series" by Clausager on page 30, bottom right. I shall be eternally grateful to anyone who can help. Thank you. Jeff, the firm below is the firm who produced the originals however they no longer produce them in solid brass, brass plated steel, and they don't have the imprint as shown in Clausanger....however they are otherwise the right ones.....My originals were lost on my TA and on my NA which used the same ones.......... Jeff - Can you tell me a little about these catches I don't have a book handy. I know a fellow that has some original ones in brass ( set of 4 ) with the number '4' on each one. They are not in chrome so will need to be redone. Does anyone know what the number '4' means ? My tool box has the single catch on each side a la Clausager, however mine are painted as shown on P. 24 (bottom photo). They are brass and secured by six brass screws per side. Hope this helps. I think my car is fairly original. Can't swear to the authenticity of the black paint, though I doubt they were ever plated even though one might infer that from the photo on P. 30. I just don't think the factory would have gussied up the hinges of the tool box. Cheers to all. Dick Little (Amherst, NH)

The material of the latch was brass, painted black as was the box. Most of the restored ones are done incorrectly. Hi Geoff - Sorry I missed you at Carlisle this year. I think I saw you briefly out of the corner of my eye, but then you were gone. I will see what I can do about getting about getting some pics of his collection. He is pretty funny about selling things however, he knows what things are worth and knows they don't make it any more. He spends a great deal of time in the UK and how he finds this rare stuff is beyond me. I know he does not have any lid catches as I had to rob one off of a TC to finish a lid on a TC, but I will ask, I am pretty sure I don't have any. Do you want to make an offer to him thru me and see what he says ? I have no interest in making any money on this, I just don't have the time, but to help a friend I will make the time. Hi, Rick. Thanks for your message. In your original post I understood you to say you knew a man who had 4 of these things. From your latest communique I now get the impression that you think he may not have the whole item and what's more probably won't be interested in selling them anyway. I find it strange that you missed me out of the corner of your eye at Carlisle, as I have not been to Carlisle in 5 years. I am certainly not in the habit of making offers on items which I have not either seen or at least had the chance to view accurate pictures of, (as in say, eBay), especially through intermediaries , no matter how well their intentions. No, I have never lived in the Philly area and haven't moved in 15 years, nor do I intend to in the foreseeable future. Please clarify.
