Chinese MG's?

Post by 1939mgtb » Thu Jul 28, 2005 6:36 am

Did I read that Saico had closed the deal on the MG name? I had though they had withdrawn. Did they jettison Rover and just keep the saleable name? Also, I had understood that Phil Marino had retired; has he now UNretired?? Not so. Nanjing Automotive Corp. is the purchaser of the assists of the MG-Rover Group; SAIC had previously acquired the "intellectual property" of, as I understand it, the Rover 75 and 90, or so the WSJ saith. . . . and you can soon strike "chinese copies" from your lexicon and substitute "OEM parts." John S. Roger, It's all a bit of a "Chinese puzzle". By the time the various suitors have finished fighting amongst themselves the competition will have moved on and swallowed up the market. Further potential "elephant traps" could be Honda (who, apparently still 'own' something?) and, I think, BMW (don't they own the brand and it's merely on loan?). It's a bit like trying to wade through treacle to get to buy your 'Chinese takeaway'! Just what we need a revival of the Rover 75 and 90 two cars so steeped in tradition you did not know which decade you were in. Maybe they can get it produced in India as a companion piece to the Morris Oxford. By the way my friends mother has a Rover 100 she says she wants to sell she is original owner and car has been garaged and off the road at least 25 years It is located in New York City , contact me off list if interested.
