TC Gas tank repairs

After inspecting the gas tank of a recently purchased parts car, I have realized the gas (petrol) tank is probably not worth repairing- many previous bodged repairs.. Dave, I purchased one from Moss Motors. It's not installed yet, but the overall quality appears to be virtually identical. After years of patching the original tank up we finally purchased, painted, and installed a new tank from Moss about three months ago. As I recall, Abington didn't have one in their inventory at the time and Moss only had the one I purchased in stock back then. I believe it was just under $1 K delivered, up a few hundred from the price in an OLD catalog. The tank was fine in all respects except one. The clearance between the spare tire mount and the back of the tank was so small the fuel quantity sending assembly could not be fitted properly. We simply replaced it with a flat plate. I normally use the odometer reading for refueling needs so the loss of the warning light was not a problem. We could have played some games with the tire mount and rectified this clearance issue but that would have been far more work than it was worth to me as the car is a daily driver, not a showboat. I'm was generally sat5isfied with the Moss tank except for the top filling arrangemnt which was a rather crude pressed steel arrangenment versus my origial brass assembly. So I had my original "brass orifice" welded into the Moss tank. Chrome plating on the tank end plates was rubbish. John Steedman TC0301 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Dave: If you order a new tank, check it out immediately when you get it. I made the mistake of ordering a new tank from Abingdon Spares a couple years before I would try to install it. It had been sourced from England but the builder could not have used a TC as its model. The dimensions were almost but not quite right. It was too deep front to back, the fuel level sensor was too high (resulting in contact with the spare tire holder), the angle of the base plates where they set on the frame was wrong, --- and it leaked. I had to give up and go back and repair the tank the Abingdon factory put on the car in 1948. It works. Richard Fritz, TC6649, Longmont Colorado

Dave - I have an original TB/TC spare tank in for a new (guarenteed for life) interior coating Don't know exactly what the repair cost will be but it should be finished by the end of the month if you want to wait that long I can let you know.
