windshield install

Post by Stephen D Stierman » Wed Jul 13, 2005 4:20 pm

All knowing ones, I am in process of trial assembling the body of TC 2911 after more then a year and a half of building and skinning a new tub, and stripping and reparing and priming all panels. I wonder if some kind soul might take some measurements for me of the bolt holes needed for windshield installation. Perhaps measurement from center of the holes to the front and rear and bottom edge of the scuttle would help me position this correctly. I had to weld new metal into the scuttle to replace the bondo the windshield was bolted to, so I do not have a good reference. Your kind help would be most appreciated, many thanks! S. Gene, Afraid the inner wood was nothing more then rotten kindling thanks to the padding installed by the works, it is long gone! But thanks Steve --- Gene Gillam anngene@bellsouth.net> wrote:

Steve, might I suggest that you mount your side curtains and then fit the windscreen. Then fit the top. That should make everything line up. Jim

Sorry, you don't give your first name. I dug this out from my restoration notes of 3 years ago:- On most contemporary photos the bottom of the windscreen bracket mounting rubber is between 1/8" and 1/4" above the horizontal metal scuttle - tub seam. Measuring about 3 local unrestored TCs I came up with (the surprisingly consistent) :- Front bolt hole: 4" from the tub wood face measured parrallel to the scuttle- tub seam. Rear Bolt hole: 5" from the edge of the scuttle metal (MEASURED at RIGHT ANGLES to the face of the dash. Having said that, I'd wait until you and a friend (absolutely vital to have asssistance) have test mounted the fully assembled w/s assembly in this position, before you do any drilling, to see how much "fettling" the scuttle is going to need. Best wishes, John TC0301 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
