As a further note with regard to paypal currency conversion here is what happened to me recently: 1. I purchased an item on ebay and payed using paypal. Paypal converted the Cdn dollars to USD at an excessive rate. 2. The seller returned my payment via paypal after the item was found not to be suitable. 3. Paypal converted the USD to Cdn dollars, again at a high rate 4. Paypal then converted these Cdn dollars back to USD at a higher rate and lodged them in my paypal account where I could not get at them for 10 days. So, paypal ended up doing three currency conversions all at a higher rate than the bank. They refused to put the refund directly into my paypal account which would have eliminated two totally unnecessary conversions. I avoid using paypal as much as possible. Hugh Pite in Sidney, B.C.

Hi All, Paypal , when used with care, works great. I did get phished last year with a very clever site , paypal immediately tried to freeze my account at my request but could not due to their automated systems. I then called my credit card company and froze all unauthorized transactions, including paypal trying to pay the crooks. So , by using a dedicated card just for Paypal stuff, Visa in my case, with a $1000 limit or so, it is not hard to shut off the faucet. Visa reimbursed me for $600 in unauthorized purchases and fought Paypal successfully by not releasing funds. Contact with Paypal via fax got everything back to normal. Caution here. PayPal is hit frequently by fraudulent emails that appear to be authentically from PayPal but are not. Before clicking on any email link, check directly with PayPal. Also watch carefully what the actual link is if you do venture to click on it. From my experience, often it is not a real PayPal link. A word to the wise should be sufficient! I have never had an actual PayPal problem and use them extensively, but as previously commented, I have had numerous attempts by phony PayPal emails trying to get me to reveal or change my PayPal account information. In the past two weeks I have had four attempts from fake Pay-Pal people. I just forward them to spoof@paypal and they respond by stating yes it was fake and they are seriously looking into it. The same goes for E-Bay use spoof@ebay and they too will respond. Sandy Sanders Hudson Florida

If you aren't familiar with the problem, go here: http://www.bcpl.net/help/security/phishing.html I've used PayPal for years and have never had a problem. When you pay for an eBay purchase via PayPal, never do it by clicking on a link in an e-mail you receive allegedly from the seller or allegedly from PayPal. It may not really be from either of them, in which you will become yet another victim of identity theft. Instead, click on the "Pay Now" link on your "My eBay" page or the "Pay Now" link on the page for the specific auction you've won. Those will take you directly to PayPal. Hi Fred, Today I had 5 phony Paypal attempts to get information. The funniest was one advising that, due to the high level of fraud concerning paypal going around, Paypal needs a second credit card with all pertinent info to verify your account when signing on!!
