Exhaust system

Post by Doug Pelton » Sun Jan 11, 2015 12:36 pm

Hi Jim,

I carry the large bore stainless exhaust as a stock item. However, it is 1 3/8’ vice the 1 ” that you mention. Yes it helps the engine breath better. The down pipe is the same for all but the muffler exit and tailpipe are oversized. This is available for all TABC’s at a cost well less than other suppliers.

On a similar note of caution: The current batch of mufflers from another supplier had the mufflers made incorrectly resulting in a conflict with the aft part of the muffler and the floorboard. If anyone has recently purchased an exhaust system and have not done a trial fit, I recommend you do so.

Contact me off list for more info.

Hi group

Some time ago during a discussion of stainless steel exhaust systems I seem to remember a lister saying that there was a company that offered both a 1 inch and 1 inch system for our cars.  I have been unable to find that info in the archive.  If somebody has that info I would appreciate getting it.

Related to that, is there a difference between the XPAG and XPEG stock exhaust manifolds.  If so how do I tell the difference.   I have an XPAG that has been built to 1466cc (XPEG) with a modified head that requires 1 ” SU carbs ( I have an XPEG 1 ” intake manifold) so if there is a difference in exhaust manifolds I will require the XPEG spec. one.

Thanks for the help and info.

Hey Will,

Hate to argue with an Expert, but all exhaust manifolds are NOT the same. TB/TC early TD have smaller exhaust ports in the manifold and a 5 digit part number 2xxxx cast into the rear of the manifold.

.

Not sure about late TD, but TF and XPEG exhaust manifolds have larger port holes to match the larger exhaust holes in the head and carry a six digit 168xxx. Number.

Externally they do all look the same.

Bob....My apology to the REAL Canadian Expert. My measurements (memory) probably made using a yardstick and assuming British tolerances were in place, I missed the 1/8" + or - differance with the later Manifold. I checked my stuff. Could be my Racer TF (retired after Mid Ohio) suffered from a smaller ports in the extractor. Gaskets are the same I beleive, I'll check them.  Thanks for getting out the straight scoop     Will.   William Bowden willbowden@aol.com -----Original Message----- From: Bob Grunau grunau.garage@sympatico.ca> To: 'William Bowden' Willbowden@aol.com>; gmparcr gmparcr@lambgroupinc.net>; mg-tabc mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com> Sent: Tue, Jan 13, 2015 9:07 am Subject: RE: [mg-tabc] Exhaust system Hey Will, Hate to argue with an Expert, but all exhaust manifolds are NOT the same. Hey WILL,

Gaskets are the same I believe, I'll check them

Sorry again, manifold gaskets to the head have larger holes for the late TD/TF manifolds, both intake and exhaust.

Maybe you been spending too much time in the Florida sun?? C mon up north to -30 C Canada winter, it sharpens the brain J

Bob,   Retired TC racer TC6073 also after Mid Ohio, October, 2007.
