Dear All
I have an XPAW engine fitted to my TD. I have experienced porr running
recently. After the usual extensive checks and replacements I noted that oil is
seeping onto the baseplate of the distributor and so oiling up points, contacts
etc. How do I remedy this? I have seen mentioned on the TD website the
suggestion that a hol is drilled in the plate [???] so as to allow excess oil to
drain off.
What have you guys done to rectify this problem?
Your ideas and successes would be very, very welcome.

Jerry, this probably indicates that your dizzy bearings are worn plus the dizzy will pump oil if there is too much of a gap between the gear and the bottom of the unit...I believe that there should only be .005" or so there.......others will know better.

I had the same problem with my TC. Drilling a hole in the base of the
distributor will affect a short term cure. The long term cure is to
overhaul the distributor. This will improve the running no end.
Excessive end play affects the timing and promotes the pumping of oil up
the shaft, you will probably find the advance weights are also worn
which can seriously affect the advance curve. This needs to be checked
on a test rig at a distributor overhaul specialist. When tested mine
showed 14deg at 2500, 14deg at 2000, 11.5deg at 800 and 6.5deg at 400.
Lucas specifications are 14-16deg at 2500,12-14deg at 2000,2-5deg at 800
and Nil at 400.

New bushings, & shimming the shaft end float down to .001 did not help me. I
installed a lip seal in the distributor body, ( top ), Done, no more leaks.
Contact me off list for info on seal part #, Labor, etc. Len

Seal # 342805, National- Federal-Mogul . Any good machine shop should be able
to do the job. Or i can for $75.00, parts & labor. Len
