After finding and curing the clattering in my TC with the valued correct answer and help of John Seim, I looked at the fan belt as I put it the back on. It looks fairly worn. I have a couple of spare belts, which are way too long. I bought a #6939 belt from CarQuest, as suggested by one of our group, to be the right size, but green in color. It is green, but It seems to be a bit too long, as when the generator is fully pulled out against the stop bracket it easily pushed down more than an inch in the middle top visible part, which seems a bit loose. Am I wrong on the amount of slack allowed? Anyway, does anyone have the specs for the original belt from the factory. The #6939 is marked 21/32" x 39", or for most of the world 16.5mm x 990mm. If it isn't raining tomorrow I am going on a run with our local club of about 140 miles out to a hot spring resort for lunch and a dip.
Good motoring!
