Tonneau stud locations
Steve of TC8975 who so accurately described the love of driving a TC asked:
Just bought a new canvas half tonneau from Moss. It comes with lift-the-dot hardware including studs but I have no idea where I'm supposed to install the studs.
Steve, I placed the studs on the back of the tub 1.75" outside of the seam and 1.25" down from the top edge of the tub (not the rail, but the tub). I think this makes them 29.97" apart. This is really close to what was posted on the site last year when the same question was asked. I referred to a factory picture of an early TC from the back (page 62 of Sherrell's book, Pg 70 of Graham Robson's "T Series the complete story"). Other pictures from other books show placement in same place. Side location - place them at about the same height and far enough forward to hold the tonneau correctly.
Use a 0.125" (1/8") drill to make hole. Put a piece of masking tape over paint before drilling. Hold a card or vacuum under the hole as you drill so you don't have to clean up afterwords. A nylon washer under the stud will protect the paint; Moss sells them, but you can get them at Lowe's or Home Depot quicker and less expensively (I used a #8 size).
Put the 2 studs in the back, then put the fasteners on the tonneau (do one, check fit, do the second). Then fit and mark locations of side tonneau.
I understand the feeling of drilling a newly done tub. Just put the full tonneau on this morning, and added 5 more studs. The bare minimum, but now they are there and nuthin' I can do about it.

Guys,
The factory certainly didn't measure in tenths of an inch as to stud
placement.
Let's not get silly.
The guy who installed them eyeballed it, and drilled.
If you look at the factory photos, you will discover many small
discrepancies.
Best,
Ray
