Re: rear hub nut
I think what Moss sells it a castellated nut similar to the original but
with slightly different dimensions. I bought a tool online to fit them but I
think a better solution is to go with the tapered shaft setup. More
expensive but also better engineered.

Re: rear hub nut
I believe a 1 7/8 will work.

Re: rear hub nut
It is very disappointing to hear that Moss still sells the castellated nuts:
my comments on these should be well known to you all by now...
The lip-sealed hexagonal nuts that I have been selling for almost ten years
now, started out as 1 1/4" whitworth (2.05" AF/52mm) but sockets for those
are now hard to find, so I changed to 2" AF (50.8mm) for one batch, but
finally settled on 50mm because the whole world is turning metric, and a 2"
socket will still work quite happily. Anything smaller (as hinted by SSK)
would make for a much weaker nut.
Incidently, I sell the nuts as a complete kit, including seals and tab
washers, for only 25/US$50. This also includes stainless steel sleeves to
go over the splines of original half shafts, with taper shafts these are not
needed. You can buy them from Abingdon Spares, but cheaper direct! I also
have EVERY part for the back axle, either new or used, including 8/37 gears,
taper roller bearings (some machining needed) and original ball bearings.
And not forgetting the taper fit shafts & hubs and M.G. logo bronze
spinners.

Re: rear hub nut
I've used Rogers 'nuts' so to speak, and they are very effective.
Except for one thing: I didn't take enough care with glueing the sleeve on
one side properly which resulted in oil coming past the sleeve and shaft.
Roger you may wish to perhaps to offer advice on the best ways on ensuring a
good seal on the glued sleeve.
AND the diff you rebuilt for my TA is still going strong.
