Floorboards

The adventure continues.........I am disassembling TC2850 in order to restore it to its former glory. As instructed by the manual, in order to remove the engine and gearbox the floorboards need to be removed. Much to my surprise, I found that they were not attached to the frame! Here are my questions: 1. Should there be a rubber strip between the floorboards and the frame? 2. It appears that 3 bolts and nuts hold the outside edges, true? 3.What is the bolt size that holds the floorboards to the drive shaft cover? 4. Should the upholstery excess be under the boards or on top? 5. Is this information available in a publication? I know its a lot of questions but my ignorance runs deep. Hi Tom, 1) There are rubber strip under the floorboards and frame similar to the strips you have under the fuel tank. 2) There are three nuts built in to there frame, and the frame is fixed to the chassis by two bolts and nuts on each side. Hello Tom, I had a grievous misfortune with 1704 in 1966. When I replaced the (exhaust system, transmission tunnel, gearbox, prop. shaft: delete where inapplicable), I had chucked the WOODEN strips between the propshaft tunnel flange and the floorboards. After twenty-five miles of running down to Heathrow, where I happened to be working at the time, I was enveloped in voluminous clouds of - no doubt - toxic smoke from the slowly burning nearside (L/H) floorboard which was then sitting directly on the silencer (muffler!) I am about to coat the plywood floorboards for TC 2850. I have used spar varnish on the rest of the wood to protect it from moisture. I am afraid that the varnish will not protect floorboards from a possible, (Ha-ha) oil leak. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what protectant would work? I used spar varnish on mine in 1957, especially on the edges of the plywood, and they still look like new even with brake fluid spills, and oil spills. Who supplies the best quality TC floorboards these days? Moss sells them and they are within driving distance from me, although their price is higher than others I've seen. Perhaps the quality warrants the price? - Steve Simmons, TC8975
