Hi all, I use what we call in the UK "Dowty" washers, these have a rubber or nitrile insert and are used mainly in hydraulic applications. Are slightly thicker than the copper washers but have proved ok for me. Regards, Ron Benson(Waiting for the snow in N.Yorks) Subject: Crushable washers Our MGs use flat copper washers in several places to control rather high hydraulic pressure, for example at the connections to the oil filter and at the ends of the flexible brake hoses. I have seen washers for this purpose described as "crushable" washers. My question is: can these be reused when reassembling connections, or should new washers be used each time? If the washers are copper, they can be re-used almost forever if you merely anneal them each time. Heat them red hot, and drop 'em in water...opposite effect then that on hot steel. The brake system isn't really a very high pressure hydraulic system. No automotive system really is, as the brakes lock up at only around 1200 PSI! The nitrile insert washers work fine, too.
