electronic ignition
Hello listers
I am giving consideration to fitting some form of electronic
ignition to my 1936 TA 0338 which has it's original MPJG 2793 engine
fitted. I figure that this would improve considerably the accuracy
of the spark timing, and give better performance as a result.
I have read with interest the various postings regarding the
Pertronix units, but could anyone tell me where I can source one in
the UK, hopefully from someone who can supply the correct unit with
no problems later.
I believe that my distributor is fitted with a symmetrical cam. My
car is still positive earth 12v.
Any alternative units could also be considered, it doesn't have to
be Pertronix.
Many thanks in anticipation of your help

Re: electronic ignition
Richard, I believe Aldon Automotive sell it in the UK, as the "Ignitor".

Plan to do the same myself, so please let me know how you get on. I've had
a similar system in my Triumph Stag for 30 years, brilliant, overcomes worn
distributor, no more messing with points, timing now set permanently, etc.

Electronic ignition
Richard / Ian,
I have recently fitted an ' Ignitor' from Aldon Automotive and it works fine. It was a positive earth model for our 1949 TC EXU.
Make sure that you identify the shape of the dizzy cam before you order. I needed a unit to suit the asymmetric cam in our dizzy. There are three shapes of cams i.e.symmetric / asymmetric / high lift. These are shown on page 528 in the W.E. Blower MG Manual.
The chap to speak to at Aldon is ' Rob ' who is fully aware of the model you will need relative to the cam as fitted in your dizzy. The unit was a doddle to fit.

Electronic Ignition
Comparing the renditions of the cam from Blower to the actual cam and
coming to the right conclusion was not easy, at least for me. I got it
wrong and decided I had a symmetric when it was asymmetric. Moss, at
least in CA has the micrometer measurements. The asymmetric cam is
larger and the sleeve for the symmetric cam will not slide over it
without destroying the sleeve. I did that and Pertronics sent me a new
sleeve gratis under the warranty. Good outfit to deal with. To be
certain of the cam I would try to get the measurements or possibly just
measure your cam and give the number to Rob who might be able to compare
it to the inside dimensions on the sleeve. Pertronics is a major
improvement over points and condensor. I have had it on my YT for about
5 years; trouble free. And now on the TC. Terry in Vancouver

Richard
Check the MG Owners Club - they regularly have these units on special
offer - good to support the club anyway.

Electronic Ignition
Hello all
Many thanks to everyone who gave advice regarding fitting the
Pertronix unit to my 1936 TA 0338. I have finally got round to
tracking down Rob at Aldon Automotive for availability.
BUT.......... The Pertronix unit will not fit my DK4A distributor and
there is no kit available to suit. It will only fit the DKY4A.
Anyone got any suggestions??
Also if anyone is remotely interested, I have a radiator shell to suit
a TA / TB / TC available in reasonable condition. Contact me if
interested.
Many thanks for now
