question on value
Hello TC'ers
I've been absent from participating on the site for some time but looking to purchase another TC. Have owned two but been about 15 years since I had my last one TC 7636. Question I have is how does not having the original engine impact the value of what is otherwise a beautifully restored 47 TC ? It is a correct XPAG engine, just not the right one. I'm 71 and do not want to make a stupid decision at this time in my life as know at some point I will need to pass this car onto another steward of the marque. Thanks in advance for your input.

Re: question on value
Mike,
In my opinion, for what it's worth, it's not that important for a TC to be numbers matching. They're collectible because they're beautiful and fun, not because they're valuable.

Re: question on value
Hi Mike,
Gene's correct. As long as the engine is an XPAG, you are good to go for the majority of us. With the TAs, often the MPJG engine was replaced by the factory with a XPAG engine at customer request, the performance was that much better, the happy fate of my TA Tickford.....:}

Re: question on value
I think to most people the value will be affected somewhat by a replacement engine. To what degree will depend on the potential buyer. Collectors and fans of factory originality will want a numbers matching car. Drivers won't care so much. I think it also matters somewhat if it's a genuine TC engine or a later TD/TF unit. There were also factory "Gold Seal" replacement engines that some people seem to like even more than the originals for their historical interest. And a TF1500 might actually increase value for someone who wants to drive the car a lot. If the engine number wasn't stamped on the maker's plate in direct view of the numbered engine tag then I think it wouldn't be an issue at all.
Bottom line for me is that while I prefer a matching original engine, I wouldn't pass up a deal on a good car because it didn't match.

Re: question on value
I happened to have a conversation with a club-member friend of mine recently and he gave me his observations on MG resale prices including the T Series and B Series. Bottom line for him: both series will command higher prices in France than in the USA, by quite a margin. He recently sold a late model MGBGT for over $34,000 whereas he was offered much less than that in the US. We both live in the Sacramento area of California if that's of any interest.

Re: question on value
It may also be dependent on the price of the car, if it is a high dollar car with lots of technical correctness than I think the numbers matter but if it is a low priced car and is a nice runner and a good honest car why pass it up

TC'ers I've been absent from participating on the site for some time but looking to purchase another TC. Mike

Re: question on value
Hey all, I just sold TC 2850 and my MGA to a fellow from Great Briton. He is a re-seller and hopes to make a tidy profit in Europe. When I spoke to the shipping company, they said that around 100 cars a month go to Europe, mostly European brands. Tom

Subject: Re: [mg-tabc] question on value
I happened to have a conversation with a club-member friend of mine recently and he gave me his observations on MG resale prices including the T Series and B Series. Bottom line for him: both series will command higher prices in France than in the USA, by quite a margin. He recently sold a late model MGBGT for over $34,000 whereas he was offered much less than that in the US. We both live in the Sacramento area of California if that's of any interest. Andy Reshke

to most people the value will be affected somewhat by a replacement engine. - Steve Simmons, TC8975 On 8/22/2019 5:49 AM, MIKE LEWIS Harborislander@aol.com [mg-tabc] wrote: Hello TC'ers I've been absent from participating on the site for some time but looking to purchase another TC. Mike
