Jan, there was a corresponding hole for other end of the spring on all Triple-M handbrake chassis mounts. Handbrake casting carried over to TABC with spring hole still on the bottom. [b](see att'd pic of J2)[/b]
No idea why it was dropped on T-Series brakes - perhaps because it was only operating rear brakes on the juice brake cars rather all four MMM cable brake corners? MMM handbrakes also had same return spring bracket (as TABC) around the h'brk cross member with other end att'd to frame.

Not exactly so !
There IS a return spring that fits here on the TB, and on TA After TA1306. (Why not before I do not know)
Part No is S73/8, and it attaches to a clip on the chassis frame cross tube (CLIP PART NO 2764)
