Is there source out there that would list the casting numbers/letters for each year an XPAG block was cast between 1945 and 1953? I believe that the year 1948 has a casting code of 19A8. I do not know the other years' casting codes. The code can be found cast into the engine block just to the right of the distributor mounting on the block.
Thx,

Hi Craig, apologies for delay in replying - been on holiday.
The MGCC T Register has done a lot of work in deciphering the casting numbers and date numbers on XPAG and XPEG blocks and the results of their work can be found at
http://www.mgcc.co.uk/t-register/registers/t-type-chassis-and-engine-identification#castingnumbers
There are clickable links in both the casting numbers and casting dates sections which take you to more in-depth pdf articles. There s lots of pictures as well and a link to an album of casting marks.
In the case of casting dates, although we are reasonably sure of the basis for them, there are still lots of blocks we have seen which contain extra characters, and we are still investigating these.
Get back to me if you have trouble locating the articles.

The date code is quite simple. There is a letter with a single digit number to its right. D = 1940's. A block cast in '49 willbe D9. There is also a number before it, and a number after the D9.
