Type 9 5 speed oil top-up ..

Hi y'all,  anybody managed to top-up/check the oil level in a TC with a type 9 Ford 5 speed box without resorting to removing the rubber cover?  I can't even see a pesky plug!

Hi I have a spare type 9 Ford 5 speed box bought for another car and not used, it has a refill plug on the left side (looking from rear to front), that requires a 10mm allen key. It is about 3.25" up from the bottom of the box, so I would think you would need to either remove the rubber cover, or cut an access hole in the side (as per the hole in the floor for the brake master cylinder). Mike, Peter Gamble of Hi-Gear added the drain feature several years ago to allow you to drain the gearbox if you needed to remove it from the car.   If you don t the oil will drain out the tail shaft when you raise the front of the transmission. Thanks to all who led me in the right direction for locating the bung ... I removed enough screws holding the rubber cover to the floor/foot-ramp and 'peeled' it up out of the way ... just as well I did cos the oil was low!  Tweed.
