Toe in for TC

Post by frenchblatter » Thu Mar 08, 2018 3:56 am

I seem to remember someone saying that the TC will steer better if the track is set far greater than the 3/16" (5mm) the handbook says. Am I dreaming? Thnaks, Norman TC 10178 (November 1949)

And you might leave a trace of rubber on the road as well....  I did this in the past and indeed, the TC steers just lovely. But I had to replace my front tyres after 1 season of moderate use...... Went back to the factory advised 3/16 toe-in and no more problems with rubber leaving my tyres. But yes, Wanda is wandering a tad again. Just part of the charm driving a 70 year old MG.     From: mg-tabc-noreply@yahoogroups.com">Stephen D Stierman morgan7709@sbcglobal.net [mg-tabc] Sent: Thursday, March 8, 2018 8:19 AM To: norman@frenchblat.com">norman@frenchblat.com ; mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com">mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [mg-tabc] Toe in for TC

I am watching the wear on my new front tires and am about to rotate them after a couple thousand miles of use this year.  I note that the previous set wore more in the center running 30psi and lasted about 14,000 miles with rotation, these seem to be doing the same. As to how many miles these will go, we will have to see and this sort of coincides with how many miles I will go as we both are very close in age.  I do find the improved directional stability much to my liking and may be willing to pay a price in slightly increased tire wear.Steve TC2911 From: "dezwartj@telus.net [mg-tabc]" mg-tabc-noreply@yahoogroups.com> To: Stephen D Stierman morgan7709@sbcglobal.net>; norman@frenchblat.com; mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com Sent: Thursday, March 8, 2018 5:51 PM Subject: Re: [mg-tabc] Toe in for TC   And you might leave a trace of rubber on the road as well....  I did this in the past and indeed, the TC steers just lovely. But I had to replace my front tyres after 1 season of moderate use...... Went back to the factory advised 3/16 toe-in and no more problems with rubber leaving my tyres. But yes, Wanda is wandering a tad again. Service life of tires just 14k miles ? Vintage tire suppliers must really dumb down their tires to create an endless market. My daily driver tires typically last 75k miles.  -Bill HyattSent from my iPhone

What are they made from, concrete?  More importantly, what is your daily driver? I don t know for sure what milage my Avons get on my TC.  I do a lot of country, long distance driving in it but for as much as I ve done I ve never worn out a set of tyres on my TC or indeed my MG-F.  I change them every four - five years regardless of the tread depth left.  Reason being the rubber gets way too hard, their performance drops right off and the rubber begins to perish and you run a real risk of blow outs.  I find the risk of this happening far outweighs the cost of new tyres every four - five years.   But seriously Bill, what sort of tyres give you 75k miles (90,500 km) life?  I am lucky to get 30k miles out of the Pirelli Crosstrax on my Range Rover . Your daily driver is not running bias ply tires now is it?   I can recall years ago prior to the advent of radials becoming standard items, the various performance bias plys; wide ovals, poly glass, blue dots, blah blah of the day were lucky to get this sort of mileage.Steve From: Bill Hyatt usaj24@earthlink.net> To: Stephen D Stierman morgan7709@sbcglobal.net> Cc: Peter Mond tangous1@yahoo.com>; "dezwartj@telus.net" dezwartj@telus.net>; "norman@frenchblat.com" norman@frenchblat.com>; "mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com" mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com> Sent: Thursday, March 8, 2018 8:30 PM Subject: Re: [mg-tabc] Toe in for TC Service life of tires just 14k miles ?
