Apologies for this and another related email appearing twice. When I originally sent them they didn't seem to go so I sent them again. Now they have turned up. I wonder where they went for 3 days?

You may recall I had a problem with no charge when the plc switch was in the low, high or side position. It charged fine on headlamp position.

Well thanks to various suggestions and in particular help from Eric Worpe, who persuaded me to buy a multimeter and then suggested checks to make I have today found and corrected the problem.

I got to the point with the CJR3 box where the 2 resistors checked out OK but I found that there was no continuity between the outer resistor and the FI terminal which should have a permanent link in the box under the asbestos (yes I know it's dangerous!) below the resistors. I took out the resistors etc and exposed the bakelite base. I noticed immediately that the thin metal strap between FI and the resistor connection point had a fine crack. I cleaned and soldered it to regain continuity. Put everyrhing back together, connected battery, started up and charging in all positions now fine. 

Will need to check and adjust 3rd brush position to give correct charging. Also need to look at replacing resistors which are spiral, rusty wire.
