Hi Tweed, My first car, just before the TC, was a Morris 8; years later I read in F. Wison McComb's book called "The Story of the MG sports Car" that the Morris 8 was regarded as an operational trainer for the Tabc. This intrigued me until I discovered that the Bishops Cam steering box was almost identical to that of the Tabc. Regards, Eric. ________________________________________ From: Tweed lizandtweed@yahoo.co.uk Morris 8's, lovely little things ... and one of the first cars I ever drove! ________________________________ From: "joecurto@aol.com I have a pal who has bought a group of 6 pre-war Morris 8's , at this point condition is unknown they are in California and are probably sedans , if any interest get in touch with me off list , or if you have someone who may be interested me know

hi Eric - me too! In my case a 1935 ser. 1 Morris 8, in black of course, with a folding canvas sun roof. This leaked, so I pop-rivetted a sheet of aluminium over the aperture! Thrashed it until the white-metalled big-ends melted... I did indeed have a Bishop Cam, albeit a much slower worm: I still have it, and it is possibly the only un-bushed BC in captivity! Happy Days! Hi Eric,

Here is some real trivia:

My Dad's 1st car after the war was a Morris 8 - CBM 225 - weird how I can remember that registration number from 60+ years ago. It ended up outside a pub called the Cock at Beasley End in Essex along with a couple of other old cars in the '60's. The pub was well known as having the landlord - Mr Roy - with the longest moustache in England at the time. He kept it waxed and rolled but would unroll it and lay it along the bar if you asked nicely!

Strange but true.

Regards,

Jeff

Too many years ago I had for my daily driver a very early Mk1 twin-tank Cooper S ...  unfortunately the 1071 engine had been replaced with a 998 but the running gear was all S.  It also had a Webasto sun roof that had a bit of an 'iffy' catch.  Driving home one windy, rainy night, an artic going the other way sucked the bloody thing clean off!   All that was left was the inside lining, some tattered bits of vinyl and two 'ears'!  The ears were the ends of a plate that attached the vinyl to the rear of the roof and were sticking up like two dorsal fins!  This was long before the days of eBay when scrap yards were the places to go for most things, and I found a good roof panel.  The idea was just to cut the remains of the old roof out, weld in this 'new' one and cover it with vinyl.  However, my colleague and partner in my Morgan repair and resto days, talked me out of it convincing me to make some ash formers and screw in a sheet of marine ply.  The idea was to still cover it with vinyl, but it would be less permanent ... then if by any chance a Webasto roof turned up it would be easier to put back in.  I drove that Mini for 5 years with that piece of ply in the roof and never did get round to covering it. Not a bodge I'm proud of as I still have the roll of vinyl!  The car was bought for the shell, which I understood the guy was going to race.
