Dear All,
Having dismantled my steering box I thought to replace the column bearings. These are caged and are not currently available from any UK suppliers I have tried. In another context, bicycles, I have read that cages are not really necessary, they are just a convenience when fitting. So, am I OK just to replace the balls or what about putting new balls in the old cages?
Many thanks.

Re: Bishops Cam Steering column bearings
Hi Graham,
I replaced mine with loose balls which I held in place with grease. From memory they are 1/4 inch.
Regards
Peter

Graham, Look at split flange Delrin or PTFE bearings, or non split bushing. No need for anything too sophisticated, just avoid metal to metal contact. Re: Bishops Cam Steering column bearings
Hi Graham, You are correct, the caged bearings have been non-existent for the past few years. I am just in the final stages of manufacturing these and should be available beginning of the year. Yes, as a work around you could use separate balls packed in grease but these can rub on each other and cause resistance. The purpose of the cage is to allow the balls to run independent with minimal friction. I will update this post when available.
