Hi Listers,
I had my local machine shop turn down the heads of the bolts so that I could get my ring spanner/socket
over them. Still looks right, but perhaps a bit OTT.
Happy Christmas to all.
Regards Mike Bate.

I have a set of Melco Whitworth box spanners. The threads in the bell housing and setscrews have been cleaned and died and tapped. They will screw in by hand easily and then a box spanner tightens them. Takes a few seconds.

James,

I think the worse old car to work on was the MGA Twin Cam. Getting the starter off that was major surgery.

I have this theory about modern cars. There s a secret award made to car designers for who can make the worst design for a mechanic to work on. Whoever designed the Mini Cooper S with the supercharger won the 2005 award.

If you want something to give you greif try working on a push-rod MGA with a cross flow head , it makes distributor, starter and oil filter access almost impossible , and yes Norm the Twin cam was no joy Joe Curto 718-762-7878 www.joecurto.com -----Original Message----- From: SANDY SANDERS esane@msn.com [mg-tabc] mg-tabc-noreply@yahoogroups.com> To: norman norman@frenchblat.com>; rmrmaintenance rmrmaintenance@aol.com> Cc: mailbox mailbox@tudorstudios.co.uk>; mg-tabc mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com> Sent: Sun, Dec 17, 2017 12:35 pm Subject: Re: Re%3A [mg-tabc] TC Starter   Norman.        I saw a repeat of the program Wheeler Dealers involving a Lancia. Joe,

It would have been the same as a Twin Cam. I fitted a few Alexander ali cross flow heads to B s, Midgets and 1100/1300 in my time at UM.

The one car we never had a problem with was Mini s (and 1100/1300). A few of us set up a Mini Bay and became so good, partly by making extra tooling, that we were sharing the production times for bonus. When a good working wage in London was 20 pw, I was taking home 60 pw!

If you want something to give you greif try working on a push-rod MGA with a cross flow head , it makes distributor, starter and oil filter access almost impossible , and yes Norm the Twin cam was no joy

Norman.

I saw a repeat of the program Wheeler Dealers involving a Lancia. To replace the alternator  Ed had to remove the front right suspension. A friend of mine had a toyota and had to loosen the front right fender to replace the battery.

It prooves that there are jackasses in all designers.

Hi Listers,

I had my local machine shop turn down the heads of the bolts so that I could get my ring spanner/socket

over them. Still looks right, but perhaps a bit OTT.

Happy Christmas to all.

I agree on the Twin Cam. Try adjusting the points and moving distributor after running the engine.
