Tire manufacture code

Post by Doug Pelton » Sun Sep 17, 2017 6:46 am

Hi Manny,

Look for a 4 digit code on the side wall. The last 2 digits are for the year of manufacture. See link for further info.

You,all seem to know a bit about TC tires. I bought TC9064EXU just over a year ago at an auction. The tires are DUNLOPs with no wear. The car presumably had a full restoration in 2008. How do I know the age of the tires. It came with racing tubes. Are there any markings that would indicate year of manufacture?

I just replaced one tube. The owner os the tire shop thought it had been converted to tubeless because of the valve stems, they are secured to the rim. He never saw tubes like that.

Again, any clue on the age of the tires.

Thanks,

Manny Schechter

Bruce,

That's far too little use to be bald.

Most likely a tracking problem when rolling that's not apparent

on a static test

I have seen this too where a brake cylinder is binding and not

returning quickly enough so the brake stays on slightly for a

time.  It's usually cleared by the time you jack the wheel up so

it does not easily show,

Also. For DOT rated tires built pre 2000 the code is: Last two digits are week of year builtFirst digit is year built in decade of '90's. Assumes tires built pre '90's no longer in service DOT rated tires are also UTQG rating coded to show:Wear, > # better wearTraction, AA bestTempeture, A, B, C, higher better Sent from my iPad
