Carburetters

Post by p.cole@ntlworld.com » Fri Jul 26, 2002 3:39 am

Before considering bolting 1 1/2" (H4) carburetters onto an XPAG it would be worth reading Don Jackson's booklet "Your SU Companion" which is widely available in the UK, and I guess elsewhere. For those not familiar with the name Don was THE authority on SU caburetters and wrote many articles on the subject for the Octagon's Bulletin. In his booklet he describes a prototype TF being delivered to the SU factory to have the caburation optinised. It had been fitted with 1 1/2 " caburetters by the factory, but SU found them unsuitable and difficult to set up. They achieved better performance and economy with H2 (1 1/4") carbs, but MG insisted the H4s stayed because it was important from a marketing view point for the new car to have larger carbs than its predecessors. Get a copy and find a mine of useful information.

OK, where do I get a copy of your SU Companion? Not readily available in Canada.
