Boiling Oil Noise
To List,
Thanks for the many comments and suggestions. I am considering the least invasive options first. The suggestion that the spark plugs/chambers may be running hotter than usual got me focused on a recent change that I had made prior to the trip that caused the noise. Recently, after finding that my TC was not accelerating well in 3rd & 4th gears, it was recommended that I advance the spark. I did so and the car accelerated better. The recent trip in hot temperature was the first since this change.
Could the advanced spark along with an already lean running engine be the problem? If I enrich the fuel mixture (leaving the advanced setting) resolve the problem as has been suggested, or is the advanced spark-approach the wrong way to go to begin with?

NB1: I use Redline water wetter, max antifreeze for Chicago winter storage(unheated)-Antifreeze and cooling system flushed every other year.
NB2: Spark Plugs = 2-Champion L-10's & 2-Champion L-87Y's (sold to me as L-10 replacements).Get more from the Web. FREE MSN Explorer download : http://explorer.msn.com

Re: Boiling Oil Noise
Art,
You might want to cut down on the anti-freeze. It doesn't conduct heat
as well as plain water - but that wouldn't explain why you've only
recently started overheating.

Arthur:
Gene is correct in that a max anti-freeze is not necessary. A 30%
solution will keep the coolant from freezing solid. However it becomes
very slushy and won't be pumped by the water pump. So If you don't
DRIVE the MG in temps below about zero F, then you don't need anything
more than 30%. This is done with many tractors around here that are
never used in the dead of winter.

Art:
The now obsolete L10s not the L10 is the correct plug for the TC. Try using a L86c or L82c. I have had excellent results with the L86c.
