Bruce,

The Moss code is CCWP1. I bought 5 tins and gave each wheel 6 coats.

Tom,

I sprayed a bit of the Moss wheel silver on the inner rim of one of my wheels. The new paint was slightly brighter but I put that down to 69 years of fading, even though they d never seen daylight.

Mike Sherrell and I have closely studied 1948 factory photos of TCs, and we think the original silver used on wheels was much brighter than what we all use now.  We seem to have migrated to a generally accepted darker silver which looks really nice.  But it's an interesting originality detail that we will never know the real answer.

Silver darkens with age (caused by the clear pigment carrier?).   Other colours do as well but it depends on the paint manufacturer.   David Brown tractor Hunting Pink was bright red almost pink in 1939 but today has aged to a maroon colour whereas a 1947 Hunting pink has aged to a very pale almost orange red colour.   During the war you could have them in any shade of Hunting Pink you were given including Army green.   Fordson tractors were painted an Orange during the war.   I have never seen a restored David Brown tractor in the correct colour they are all too dark because the paint matching systems do not seem to be able to get the correct shade and the red now darkens very quickly!   David Darrell TA 0455 UK From: imabystander@yahoo.com [mg-tabc] Sent: Tuesday, December 13, 2016 4:43 AM To: twilson@indy.rr.com ; mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [mg-tabc] Re: Paint Code   Whether or not my '48 TC wires were (are) original paint or not, I'll never know but I had the occasion to acquire a new set of MWS wires and a set of Dunlop's recently for a very good price.  I was surprised to see that the MWS silver is so close in shade and sheen to the original wheels that it is impossible to tell a difference from 10 - 15 feet away.    At the end of the day, it boils down to owners' preference.   Marv TC 5141  On Monday, December 12, 2016 9:00 PM, "twilson@indy.rr.com [mg-tabc]" mg-tabc-noreply@yahoogroups.com> wrote:   Mike Sherrell and I have closely studied 1948 factory photos of TCs, and we think the original silver used on wheels was much brighter than what we all use now.   We seem to have migrated to a generally accepted darker silver which looks really nice.  But it's an interesting originality detail that we will never know the real answer. If the original spare on my '64 MGB is any indication of what finish was used in the older days, I'm guessing that the original shade wasn't so much brighter as it was more reflective.
