Greetings,
I ordered some front brake hoses several years ago for my TB and
when I went to put them on the car I discovered the hoses I
purchased were shorter than the ones on the car. The hoses on the
car are approximately 16 1/2" long overall while the hoses I bought
are approximately 14" long overall. Note that these hoses have a
large thread on each end unlike the TC which has a small thread on
one end and a large thread on the other. The 14" hose fit the rear
fine, as the old hose for the rear was also 14".
Does anyone with a TB know if there front and rear hoses are
interchangable, and if so, how long they should be? It is possible
that the bracket that attaches to the frame and holds the brake line
and hose may have been relocated. The front face of the bracket
on the right side of the car is located 1/2" behind the center of the
lower steering box bolt, if that is a useful reference point.
Approximately 4" forward of the bracket there are two rivets in the
frame with about the same spacing as the bracket bolts-are these
rivets original?
Does anyone know a place in the U.S. that can fabricate new
hoses to length with the correct thread? I measured the thread as
16 tpi with an OD of .675". Or does anyone know if 16 1/2" long
hoses are available?
Thank you,
Bill Putnam

Re: TB front brake hoses
The TABC front hoses are longer than the rear hose -
Despite what various suppliers Octagon Club etc say -
If you fit the short ones they will streach at the ends and fail.
I had mine made up here in the UK at normal prices - cant
remember what though, but could look it up.

Re: TB front brake hoses
A set of 3 hoses, made to measure from the originals cost me 60.16 including
VAT and carriage in March 1998.
I got them from Flexolite in Malvern

Superb quality, superb service. I remeber Paddy writing about them in Safety
Fast some time ago.

Bill,
Check with a local truck stop. Big rigs have all kinds of hydraulic lines
and when these go, often they must be custom made to length and thread. FB
Wright in Detroit does many for truckers & can custom make them for you, but
there is sure to be some firm closer to home that does the same service.
