Threshold Plate/Sill Plate

Anyone know how the aluminum sill/threshold plates are attached to the TC body (at the bottom of the door openings)? Are they attached with screws or tacks? What are the attaching points? Thanks, Mark Stolzenburg TC 7812 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Mark, The sill plates are attatched with seven #4 oval (raised countersunk) slotted screws. We use stainless steel sheet metal screws now rather than wood screws due to the better bite. The pattern is like this... [: . The MG Car . Company Ltd . :] but the 3 holes around MGCCLtd are centered in the plate. If using the blank side - which is correct for a TC, the same hole pattern applies. Don't forget to countersink the 7 holes in each plate so the screw head is flush and drill pilot holes into the new ash so you don't snap the small screws. Use bees wax for lube. Good luck! Hi All, I always thought the sill plates were aftermarket on TC's . Early TC's like TA/B roadsters dont even have the complete sill covered with metal..the inner piece of sheet metal was only added by the factory to late TC's to prevent complaints that the wood sill was "wearing away" (story told to me by Henry Stone who worked at Abingdon for 43 years) What does Sherrells TC book have to say on the originality aspect ? TA/B Tickfords did have an aluminium sill plate stating the coach builders name (Salmons of Newport-Pagnell). Lets discuss this subject instead of all that garbage thats been on the list of recent. I've been away and off the list for 15 months and have rejoined it for only the past 2 weeks...must admit that I have been within a "fanny hair" of quitting. It IS good to be back though. My TC 1966 does not have the covered sill and never has ( I know because it has been in the family since new ) When I renewed the body tub several years ago ( Naylor in UK ) I asked that the covering be left off the new body. Charles Shiplee

Harry, You're right, MMM, TA, TB, and early TCs do NOT have sheet metal inner linings around the door jams. However, they all DO have the sill plates along the threshold (low horizontal edge) of the jam. MMM, TA, and TB had "MG Car Company Ltd" photo etched and black filled on these plates and the original ones I've been lucky enough to see have been polished alloy rather than brushed like today's repros. The pair on my PB were actually quite nice having been protected by 3 coats of respray (rebrush) - black, green, and white (latex house paint, I swear). The Salmons & Sons plates on the TA-B Tickfords actually are on the lower door panel just below the pocket, not on the threshold. The sill plates on the Tickfords were plain aluminum, although we use polished stainless now. Welcome back, Harry! Tommm

HI Harry, nice to have you back. The TC parts list, section M, gives the door tread plates, part number(L/H) 19332 R/H 19333, finished after 4836 bodies. Part Number (L/H) MB 21259, R/H MB21260 (these are presumably the unlettered type and I thus wonder why R & L required?), commenced at 4837 bodies.Repro's only make one which has to be fitted to both sides.
