Gearbox Lube

Hello to all My TC is fresh out of long-term, 25 years, storage. I have the engine running better than ever. New Dunlops on freshly trued rims and now I have two issues to tackle next. I am not finding 140 gear lube. Lots of "multi-weights" and synthetics. What is recommended? Also I have an appointment with an alignment rack this Saturday and who can give me some specifications for this procedure? Naturally I have some electrical gremlins, but the lights work and I do not drive it in the rain so who needs wipers. Mark Andrew TC 5146

Mark, Moss has 140 weight gear oil available. I imagine that Abingdon Spares does, too but I don't have their catalog at hand. I spent a couple of Saturdays trying to find some locally but gave up. I was hoping that there would be some sort of agricultural machinery here in the midwest that would use the stuff, but all anyone had was multigrade. Moss also has a heavy oil steering box lubricant. I am trying it out in my TC. I only put it in this winter, so I can't say how well it lubricates. At least it doesn't leak out like gear oil does. Regards, Charles Hill

Mark: Years ago, outboard motors used it in the lower gear case. Try them to see if it is still available. Blake

Often heavy weight oil such 90 or 140 SAE is available form heavy machinery shops that deal in large earth moving machines, especially large wheel loaders. In addition, there is a special lubricant plant in Geneva, Illinois with its own web site, www.clclubricants.com. Their phone number is 630-232-7900. Mark: Redline 75W140NS is excellent in both the gearbox and diff. You can usually get it at a good speed shop. I also believe Skip Kelsey is a dealer or you can get it direct from Redline. Ken TC 4147 mark andrew wrote:

I was able to get my windshield wiper motor to start working by simply removing it, opening it and manually turning the armature. As I have to repeat this procedure a few times I believe that these motors simply have a tendency to stick. This may help and it costs nothing. I find 140 weight at the local auto parts store, I believe it will help minimize the tendency of the transmission to leak oil. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
