Starter Switch

Tried to put on a NOS switch obtained from a major TC parts supplier in the USA and found that the lever is upside down, reversed or backwards. No problem about returning it. Does anyone know where it comes from, what it was intended for or whether the round casing can be turned 180 degrees. Terry

Terry I seem to remember the same situation when I replaced mine a couple of years back. I was going to send mine back but than discovered it was reversible, yours may be the same. Tony TC 9825

Terry, Don't panic, the round casing with lever can be rotated 360 degrees and the lever can be pulled out and reversed. Terry Can never be sure, but on my TC I can take the forward end of the starter switch and turn it to what ever position I want it in, there are detents inside and it click as you turn it. hi John - I have a few NOS switches for $30 plus postage from UK, and maybe some contacts, buried somewhere in the garage. Have you checked the contacts on the starter itself? these burn away but can be removed and filed flat again. they can then be reinstalled with packing to bring them back to original position. ocTagonally TCRoger, devon, Olde England John Patterson asked:

hi Marion - there is not much to go wrong with the "switch" - it is only a copper disc which is moved onto the contacts on the motor. Some sparking occurs, so those contacts get eaten away: you can put shims behind them to move them out. To test the motor, simply put a screwdriver across them. Also check the braided earth strap which goes from the chassis bracket on the N/S with the 3-way brake union, to one of the bellhousing bolts. oc[b]T[/b]agonally Roger
