Post by capaciousmg@aol.com » Wed Apr 24, 2002 8:04 pm

TABC Do any of you guys know of a source for that clear vinyl they are making now adays to go over headlamp glass. Preventing rock damage. I see it the magizine ads for modern cars. It is self adhesive and I believe it is made by 3M. Anybody know where to get enough of the stuff to cut your own sizes. Strangly no suppliers list old MG models. Joe: If you go to this web-page, you can see the Griot's garage catalogue page with all three types and prices. http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?&SKU=10227 Good searching. Sam Suklis SS

Joe, You may want to try McMaster -Carr catalog. Dupont makes a clear film called Suryln, it is used in areas on vehicles which are prone to rock chips, usually under bumpers and rockers. It is flexible, about .010" thick (.25mm) has a permanent adhesive on one side, and once applied, will not come off. I'm not sure it is thick enough to prevent a crack from a rock though. What are the odds of the lens cracking from a stone anyway? Slim to none? Another thought is to use .125 thick plexiglas cut to the size of the lens, add a foam donut, say .500" wide and .125" high on the perimeter, and secure with removable tape. Rocks would hit the plexiglas, be cushioned by the .125 spacer of foam, and all is well again. Take it off when done, and retape for those rocky roads. Just a thought. G'day Joe, Down here we are now required to cover headlamps with clear film when inolved in historic races. (Previously a few stripes of electrical tape sufficed). Pukka appearance and all that Some attempts now are truly awful, with crinkled sellotape smattered across the headlamps. However, there is a product now available called 'Headlight Skins'...usually pre-cut in the shape of various modern cars' headlamps. It is possible to choose a modern car with large-ish headlamps ( Must be at least 7" deep) and then cut neat circles and stick on your 'Tees lamps. You're up the creek if you have late model lenses... but early flat lenses are a doddle. The stuff is approx 1/8" thick, sticky as hell, and will resist all but a hit from a brick. If you're still interested give me a buzz and I'll forward manufacturer/ suppliers details. If it's available in these backwoods I'd imagine it's almost certainly on the shelves in mainstream world. Over to you.......... Jeff TC3306

I have installed headlight covers on my modern cars. They are vacuum formed from a clear slightly flexible plastic, and are retained by the chrome rim. Surely it would not be too tough to make some for the T cars, as well as the older MG's. Best, Ray

It is urethane and about 0.015" thick. Comes in rolls 3" wide or more; but it is easire to lay on in strips to prevent wrinkles over contours. It is expensive. Several of the racing industry supply it. BOB capaciousmg@aol.com wrote:
